Shelter (2007)

Summary: When his college dreams are sidelined by family obligations, a young man finds comfort in surfing with his best friend's brother.

Review: Shelter was the first gay film I ever saw and I fell in love with it instantly. The thing about this film is that it isn't only about a gay guy finding himself and figuring out he is gay but instead about a young man with so many different issues in his life like being the man of the house and having to take care of himself, his sister, an his nephew, all while holding down a job and making a little bit of time for surfing. Shot in California, I completely love the "surfer guy" aspect of the movie. The characters are complex and so easy to fall in love with. Zach and Shawn have so much chemistry and you can see the genuine spark between them. It's a feel good movie that I'm always returning to when I have a shitty day. Overall, 10/10 all around!

Warnings:

  1. Very emotional
  2. Cute sex scene
  3. Adorable gay montage (something all movies should have)
  4. Amazing soundtrack!
